Our Boat Charters - Phi Phi Island Diving Trip in May

Another charter this week, this time the destination was to the beautiful islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley in The Andaman Sea, the clients wanted to go Scuba Diving on the popular reefs of Bida Nok and Bida Nai. The clients chose Escape Artist out Flagship Motor Catamaran for the Day Trip.

With 8 clients, 4 of which were divers and four snorkelers the expectations were high on the boat as we set off from Chalong Pier in Phuket. After departing from Chalong we cruised past Koh Kai, Koh Doc Mai and the great diving sites of Shark Point and Anemone Reef on the way to Phi Phi and the first dive site of Bida Nok. On arrival the clients geared up and did their buddy checks before stepping into the blue waters surrounding the reef and descending to view the sights of beautiful and colorful corals and anemone's as well as the great selection of fish life. Turtles, Rays and Leopard Sharks abound on this site - making it a popular destination for divers around the world. Meanwhile the four snorkelers were having a great time in the small bay which provides a great area for snorkelers to view the reef only a meter below them!

After the first dive we headed over to do some sight seeing at Maya Bay made famous for being the film set of  'The Beach' - unfortunately although still a beautiful beach, the site is so popular with tourists it is (to be honest) sometimes difficult to see the actual beach from the sea for the day trip speedboats that moor up and deposit their guests to walk on the now infamous site.

We decided to cruise around to one of the more deserted beaches known to us so the clients could experience it in privacy and appreciate the beauty of the islands, after some more snorkeling we returned to the boat to have lunch, freshly prepared by our chef on board Escape Artist using only local and freshly purchased products. After dining and relaxing for a while we headed off to our second dive site to experience more of the underwater wonders in Phi Phi.

With the day progressing it was time for some more sight seeing at Monkey Beach and Viking cave - both very popular for the wild monkeys that come down to the beach and for the amazing limestone caves and structures that make up the cliffs of Phi Phi - if you are lucky and very careful you might even coax them to drink from a water bottle or grab a banana from your hand (But be careful as they are still wild and do bite!)

We then headed off to our third and final dive for the day at Koh Doc Mai - 'the Island of Flowers' The name is very descriptive but you need to dive under the water or snorkel to appreciate the name fully. Flowing soft corals and sea anemone's cover the underside of the island, as well as a wide and colorful range of nudi branches and other macro life - ideal for the keen photographers among you!

Finally the day was drawing to an end and we slowly cruised back to the pier at Chalong with the sun setting on a truly amazing day.

Our Boat Charters - Phang Nga Bay in May

The month of May this year, has been a great month for customers to charter a Motor Boat or Yacht from Epic Charters mainly due to great weather and calm seas. We have been out to Phi Phi four times already on our Flagship Boat Escape Artist - two of which were diving trips to Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai where the clients saw Turtles, Leopard Sharks, a cuttlefish and of course the beautiful corals and anemones in the area.

Our last trip out was to Phang Nga Bay - with a Couple and our Russian Guide. With the captains knowledge of the Phang Nga Bay Islands and beaches as well as the local knowledge of the guide the couple had a fantastic day.

Escape Artist moored up at James Bond Island allowing the clients to disembark and enjoy approximately an hour on the island walking around and exploring the famous setting of the James Bond 007 movie - 'The Man with the Golden Gun"

From there we cruised around the islands visiting secluded beaches and Koh Hong which is an amazing place to explore by Kayak (Escape Artist has a two seater Kayak for clients to use) or just by swimming form the boat and walking through at low tide. The cave system is fully accessible at low tide - allowing you to walk/ swim through a tunnel into a cave that opens up into a cathedral like room with the roof being open to the sky, the sun streams through the opening and causes the water to almost shimmer. A great adventure and a fun way to spend some time during the charter exploring and swimming.

Once the clients returned to the boat they sat down to eat a freshly prepared lunch of Lobster (available by special request) and a mix of BBQ and Sea Food dishes - all purchased locally and prepared by our on board chef.

After lunch it was time to begin making our way back to Chalong, of course we stopped at Koh Kai for an hour of snorkeling on the local reef there. The clients were amazed by the wide range of reef fishes and corals and had a great time feeding the fishes that swarmed around them as we threw in bread and banannas.

Unfortunately the day had to come to an end and we slowly cruised past the islands on the way back to Chalong and moored up to meet the air conditioned limousine we had arranged to take the clients back to the hotel.

The clients were extremely happy with the trip, the food and the adventures they had had on the Day charter and are looking forward to coming back next year. Its always nice to see our customers with a big smile on their face, knowing that they had a fantastic adventure/ Charter makes our day!

Phuket Kings Cup Regatta 2009

A short clip showing some of the spectator views the VIP clients had on Escape Artist during the Phuket Kings Cup Regatta 2009.

The yacht racing footage shows some of the Firefly catamarans almost leaping out of the water as they hit the waves. Also shown are some of the racing sailing yachts lowering their spinnaker and some extremely close turns between two of the leading sailing yacht competitors!

The Kings Cup Regatta is held every year in Phuket. Departing from Kata Beach on the West coast of Phuket from the lovely and tranquil crescent shaped bay of Kata Beach, the fleet departs out into deeper waters and sails a variety of course over the seven day regatta.

Held every year from the 30th of November to the 6th of December, the Phuket Kings Cup Regatta boasts spectacular racing in over four classes of sail boats over a variety of courses, fantastic evening entertainment and award ceramonies and of course the awe inspiring sail past one of His Majesty's Royal Thai Naval ships.

The sail past is in honour of His Majesty's birthday on the 5th of December, where the whole regatta sailing fleet and participating boats - including the VIP Sponsor motor catamaran, Escape Artist; sail past the Navy warship while lining the decks of participating yachts and receive the salute from the Thai Navy sailors as they sail past the Royal Thai Navy Ensign.

It is one of the premier sailing events of the year and not one to be missed!
